Trade wars slow global energy transition

Rising trade barriers — tariffs on solar panels, electric vehicles and batteries, plus controls on critical raw material exports — are slowing the global energy transition. Governments from Brussels to Brazil are imposing restrictions to protect domestic industry and reduce dependence on Chinese dominance in green technologies. The Trump administration has additionally imposed broad tariffs on Chinese solar products and electricity imports, which may delay the world's shift away from fossil fuels.
