Hubble photographs nebula N44: stars destroy and create worlds

The Hubble Space Telescope captured the nebula LHA 120-N44, located about 160,000 light-years from Earth in the Large Magellanic Cloud. The vast, seemingly empty space spans about 210 by 140 light-years. It is a cosmic cycle: one generation of stars tears apart its birthplace while helping to form the next.
