Lagarde: elevated inflation in eurozone will not disappear quickly

European Central Bank chief Christine Lagarde warned that the current inflationary shock is long-lasting and a swift return of prices to normal levels should not be expected. The ECB sets monetary policy for 21 eurozone countries. Persistently elevated inflation has direct consequences including for borrowers across the currency union.
