Finland's largest Viking treasure: a kilogram of silver and thousands of coins

On September 3, treasure hunter Kalle Lappinen found Finland's largest Viking Age treasure on record — approximately 4.5 kg of coins and jewelry from 1000–1050 CE. The treasure was uncovered about 150 km north of Helsinki. The artifacts were divided into two deposits buried in birch bark containers. Archaeologists are still cleaning and cataloguing the find.
