France accelerates Rafale F5 modernization after FCAS project failure

French defense agency DGA signed initial contracts with Dassault Aviation, Thales, MBDA, and Safran for development work on the Rafale F5 standard — the next generation of this fighter jet. The decision accelerates the program after the joint project with Germany to build the next-generation FCAS fighter collapsed in its original form. The contract covers key areas: navigation, data links, radar, electronic warfare, and propulsion; Rafale F5 is to enter service with the French air force and navy around 2030.
