Polish archaeologists discover 2.5 km of Incan roads near Machu Picchu

A team of archaeologists from Poland and Peru, including researchers from the University of Warsaw and Wrocław University of Technology, has discovered more than 2.5 km of previously unknown Incan roads near Machu Picchu. LiDAR-equipped drones penetrated dense tropical vegetation to reveal a trail on the slopes of Yanantin mountain, leading to terraces and platforms on the right side of the Urubamba valley. The discovery shows the Incas developed infrastructure on both sides of the river — changing what we knew about development around the famous site.
