Genetically modified pig kidney kept man alive for 271 days: record and breakthrough
Tim Andrews survived 271 days with a genetically modified pig kidney, a record time and the first case of an animal organ serving as a "bridge" to human organ transplantation. Throughout this period, Andrews did not require dialysis. He ultimately received a human kidney transplant.
