Kamel Daoud acquitted of defamation but faces further trials
The Criminal Court in Paris acquitted Algerian writer Kamel Daoud, winner of the Goncourt Prize for the novel "Huri ska", of defamation charges. The lawsuit was filed by Algerian Saâda Arbane, who claimed the author used elements of her private life in the novel without her consent. The defamation charge was dismissed, but separate proceedings over Arbane's privacy protection will continue. Daoud is 56 years old.
