Polish grid operator contracts 7.5 GW for 2027; electricity bills to rise

Polish Electricity Grid Company has contracted nearly 7.5 GW in a supplementary capacity auction for 2027. Aging coal-fired units, though being phased out gradually, continue serving as reserve capacity, and their owners will receive hundreds of millions of zlotys for standby readiness. These costs will be passed on to consumers through higher capacity charges on energy bills.
