Macron and von der Leyen call Europe to act in space race

French President Emmanuel Macron and European Commission chief Ursula von der Leyen appealed Thursday for Europe to take large-scale action in the space race against the US and China — from connectivity to crewed flights. Space expert Svetla Ben-Itzhak from Johns Hopkins University says Europe has scientific and industrial capabilities, but lacks investment, regular launches, and political integration comparable to the US and China.
