Black Death and false accusations: pogroms of Jews in medieval Europe

During the 14th-century plague epidemic, Europeans sought culprits among Jewish communities. Rumors of well-poisoning, torture-extracted confessions and religious hysteria led to waves of pogroms killing thousands of Jews. In many cities, entire Jewish communities were destroyed by these false accusations.
