NATO thwarted Russian operation to destroy undersea cables near Svalbard

According to a Reuters investigation, NATO forces this spring stopped a secret Russian underwater operation near the Norwegian Svalbard archipelago in the Arctic. The Russians planned to test new technology designed to destroy submarine cables. The operation was detected and halted by allied NATO forces.
