US to buy back 6 billion in bonds, 30-year yields highest since 2008
US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announced Wednesday that the government will repurchase 6 billion dollars in Treasury bonds to ease a selloff in the debt market. Yields on 30-year bonds rose to approximately 5.2% — the highest level since the 2008 financial crisis. Investors are deterred by rising inflation and uncertainty linked to conflict with Iran.
