Monument to Polish exiles dismantled in Yakutsk, replaced with Russian "hero"

In 2023, unknown perpetrators stole a monument in Yakutsk commemorating Polish and Lithuanian exiles in Siberia. On Wednesday, a sculpture of a Russian "hero" – a participant in the war in Ukraine seen as a symbol of the Kremlin regime – was unveiled on the same spot. It is another example of Russian policy to erase memory of victims of repression.
