Russia has lost 1.5 million soldiers in war with Ukraine, up to 500,000 killed

Since the start of its invasion of Ukraine, Russia has sustained total personnel losses of 1.5 million soldiers — killed, wounded and taken prisoner. The number of those killed may reach as high as half a million. Moscow is struggling to keep up with recruitment to the army, which makes it difficult to replace losses at the front.
