Trial of 14 smugglers in Paris over 2021 La Manche boat disaster
A trial has begun in Paris of 14 men accused of causing the deadliest small boat disaster in history on the La Manche. In November 2021, an inflatable pontoon sank — at least 32 people died or went missing, including a seven-year-old child. The accused, linked to human trafficking networks, face charges including involuntary manslaughter and facilitating illegal immigration as part of an organized criminal group.
