Zwi Hirsch Kalischer: Polish father of Zionism, born in year of last partition

Zwi Hirsch Kalischer, born in Poland in 1795, is listed among three main precursors of Zionism — the ideology that led to the founding of the state of Israel. His figure is examined by Michael Stanislawski in the book "Zionism." Kalischer was among the first to begin building the ideology of Jewish homeland renewal.
