100 days of Flamingo Revolution in Albania: from nature protection to protest
On 7 September 2026, one hundred days of continuous protests in Tirana, called the "Flamingo Revolution" by demonstrators, came to pass. The movement began in May 2026 in the coastal village of Zvërnec in southern Albania, where private security ejected a protester while police watched as construction machinery entered a protected nature zone. The immediate trigger was a luxury resort project linked in media to Jared Kushner, Donald Trump's son-in-law, which would have turned an ecologically valuable stretch of coastline into a retreat for the wealthiest.
