EU wants to curb Airbnb to lower apartment prices in European cities

The European Commission will approve on Wednesday a housing affordability law giving local authorities tools to restrict short-term rental platforms like Airbnb. The rules will introduce EU criteria for defining "housing crisis zones" and enable targeted interventions. Commissioner Dan Jørgensen noted that short-term rentals — though representing about 1.2 percent of the EU's housing stock — reach as much as 20 percent of available units in some tourist cities.
