Polish right's anti-Ukraine turn fuels violence against Ukrainians

Polish nationalist right is turning hostility toward roughly 1.5 million Ukrainians in Poland into a major election issue ahead of parliamentary polls. During the 2025 presidential campaign, politicians portrayed Ukrainians as a burden on public finances. President Karol Nawrocki stripped Volodymyr Zelensky of the Order of the White Eagle in response to a military unit being named after the UPA — an organization responsible for mass killings of Poles in 1943–1945.
