Widespread grass and forest fires in Indonesian Borneo show no signs of abating, with firefighters reporting sleepless days. The firefighting effort is hampered by exceptionally dry weather, thick smoke, and lack of water near the fires. Containing the disaster in the near term appears unlikely.
