Brain implants restore movement and sensation to paralyzed man
Keith Thomas, who suffered a cervical spine fracture in July 2020 after diving into a shallow pool, became the first patient to undergo brain implant surgery connecting his brain to his body — a so-called dual neural bypass. Through this he regained partial ability to move his arms and feel touch. The man working in Manhattan was previously unable to lift his arms or eat independently.
