UN votes on new world map, US only country opposed
The UN General Assembly passed the "Correct the map" resolution backed by Togo and the African Union – 164 countries voted to replace the traditional Mercator map with a version that more accurately represents Africa's true size. Six nations abstained, and the United States was the only country voting against. The resolution is non-binding but aims to encourage changes in education and cartography worldwide.
