1342 Magdalene flood was one of 16 major floods in three years
New research by an international team led by Andrea Kiss and Günter Blöschl from Vienna University of Technology challenges the belief in the uniqueness of the so-called Magdalene flood of July 1342. Scientists proved that between autumn 1341 and the end of 1343, Europe was hit by 16 major floods. The year 1342 turned out to be record-breaking for the number of such catastrophes in the past 700 years.
