Atherosclerotic plaques found in 20-year-olds, Danish and Spanish study

Research by Danish and Spanish scientists published in the New England Journal of Medicine shows that the first atherosclerotic changes in arteries appear in people as young as 20. Henning Bundgaard from the University of Copenhagen and Borja Ibanez from the National Center for Cardiovascular Research in Madrid confirm that plaque accumulation increases rapidly with age. Atherosclerosis is therefore not solely a disease of the elderly.
