Breakthrough in immunology: lung cells remember flu for months
Scientists have found that after flu infection, a special population of immune cells persists in the lungs for many months, providing local immunological memory. This mechanism may in the future improve the effectiveness of nasal flu vaccines. The discovery opens a new path to protection against the virus directly at its point of entry into the body.
