CRISPR therapy CTX310 cuts bad cholesterol by over half with a single treatment

A Cleveland Clinic study published in the New England Journal of Medicine shows that experimental gene therapy CTX310 reduces LDL cholesterol by more than 50% with a single procedure, with the effect lasting at least one year. The CRISPR-based treatment works by blocking production of the protein ANGPTL3, mimicking a rare natural genetic variant that protects against atherosclerosis. Elevated LDL promotes arterial plaque build-up, raising the risk of heart attack and stroke.
