Key trigger of Alzheimer's brain damage found outside the brain
New research identifies certain immune cells in the lymph nodes — outside the brain — as a key driver of the brain damage seen in Alzheimer's disease. The finding challenges existing models of how the disease develops and could point to new therapeutic targets beyond the brain itself. Scientists say the peripheral immune system may be more central to Alzheimer's progression than previously thought.
