Food poisoning outbreaks may trigger long-term irritable bowel syndrome
The current cyclospora outbreak could trigger a surge in cases of post-infection irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), doctors warn. Foodborne illnesses are increasingly linked to long-term gut issues that persist well after the acute infection clears. Post-infection IBS can last for months or even years.
