Many women treated for UTIs don't actually have one, study finds

A recent study found that many women treated for recurrent urinary tract infections do not actually have a bacterial infection. Their symptoms are instead caused by hormonally driven inflammation or pelvic floor dysfunction. Unnecessary antibiotic prescriptions contribute to antibiotic resistance and fail to address the underlying cause of symptoms.
