Long-term melatonin use linked to 90% higher heart failure risk, study finds

A large preliminary study found that people with chronic insomnia who used melatonin long term had roughly a 90% higher risk of developing heart failure over five years. The researchers caution that the findings do not prove melatonin causes heart problems. However, the study raises new safety questions about extended use of the widely popular sleep supplement.
