Hidden ice reservoir found beneath Utah's mountains holds water for 600 Olympic pools

Researchers have mapped a large buried glacier beneath Mount Timpanogos in Utah using gravity measurements, finding it is approximately 83% ice. The frozen reservoir holds enough water to fill 600 Olympic swimming pools. The findings suggest rock glaciers form when falling debris buries persistent snow, preserving it for thousands of years, and similar formations worldwide may store tens of gigatons of hidden freshwater.
