13-year-old Tymek died of sepsis before his heart transplant could take place
Thirteen-year-old Tymek died from sepsis shortly after a donor heart was found for him, before the transplant could be performed. Children wait longer for organs than adults, largely due to the difficulty of matching organ size. Poland's national transplantology consultant highlights the need for more donor registrations and improved transplant infrastructure.
