Residents near Santa Susana reactor site show higher chronic illness rates 60 years on
More than 60 years after a partial reactor meltdown at Santa Susana, scientists returned to the area and analysed the health of nearby residents. Their findings surprised even the researchers: people living closest to the site showed significantly higher rates of chronic illness. Experts are now investigating whether the elevated rates are linked to radioactive contamination or other causes.
