FDA approves brepocitinib for rare autoimmune disease dermatomyositis

The FDA has approved brepocitinib, developed by Roivant Sciences and its subsidiary Priovant, for the treatment of dermatomyositis — a rare autoimmune disease causing muscle weakness and a painful skin rash. The drug will be marketed as Lisraya and taken as a once-daily pill. Dermatomyositis affects between 40,000 and 70,000 people in the US, where high-dose steroids have been the standard of care.
