Common medications reshape gut microbiome for years after last dose
A study of more than 2,500 people found that common medications — including antibiotics, antidepressants, beta-blockers, acid-reducing drugs and benzodiazepines — cause lasting changes to the gut microbiome. Some effects remained detectable years after the last dose. The findings suggest that a person's past medication history may strongly shape the gut bacteria they carry today.
