EU raises Baltic herring and sprat quotas for 2027, cod limits remain tight

The European Commission proposed on Monday to raise Baltic Sea fishing quotas for 2027. The central herring catch limit would increase by 49 percent and sprat by 44 percent. Due to the poor state of cod stocks, the Commission wants to further restrict accidental cod catches.
