New coral species discovered off Costa Rica looks like a golden tree

Scientists exploring the deep Pacific off the coast of Costa Rica have discovered a new coral species named Laurinque elenya, which resembles a small golden tree. The organisms were found growing on underwater mountains surrounded by thousands of brittle stars, hundreds of metres below the surface. The species' unusual tree-like appearance left researchers astonished.
