Avoiding three risk factors in midlife can delay dementia by about 13 years, study finds
A new study tracking more than 12,000 participants found that avoiding high blood pressure, diabetes and smoking during middle age can delay the onset of dementia by approximately 13 years. All three risk factors are modifiable, meaning lifestyle changes can have a measurable impact on cognitive health. The research quantified how many years of healthy cognitive function are gained by eliminating one, two or all three of the factors.
