Deepfakes of PM Albanese used to defraud Australians out of $7.4 million

Australia's corporate watchdog ASIC has warned of a steep rise in investment scams using deepfakes of celebrities and politicians, with Prime Minister Anthony Albanese being the most commonly impersonated figure. Victims are lured into fake investment schemes, with total losses reaching A$7.4 million. The regulator urged the public to verify any investment opportunities before committing funds.
