Dominican friar after 27 years hearing confessions: the confessional is becoming a therapy room

Dominican friar Father Paweł Gużyński, who has been hearing confessions for 27 years, says the confessional is increasingly resembling a psychiatric office. Penitents now bring psychological and existential burdens rather than traditional sins, while sins once considered obvious go unmentioned. He notes that behaviours not previously seen as sinful are now regularly confessed. Overall, fewer and fewer people are going to confession at all.
