Proteins in rattlesnake blood neutralise venom — a new path to antivenom

Researchers have found that a mixture of proteins in rattlesnake blood can prevent death in mice injected with an otherwise lethal dose of venom. The finding suggests snakes have evolved a natural immunity to their own venom, which could form the basis of new antivenoms for humans. The results were published in the journal Nature.
