New World screwworm resurges in North America, now killing people too

The New World screwworm, a flesh-eating parasite whose larvae burrow into living tissue, has resurged in North America and is now infesting both livestock and people, according to a new report. The screwworm was previously nearly eradicated from the region. The resurgence has resulted in human fatalities.
