Clarke Carlisle: five suicide attempts and the road to recovery
Former professional footballer Clarke Carlisle battled depression and gambling addiction for most of his life, making five suicide attempts before finally confronting how much he wanted to die. He has now been consistently well for three to four years and is set to become chair of the mental health charity Mind. He emphasises that recovery requires ongoing effort and does not happen by accident.
