Sailing the Arctic Ocean alone: 10,000 nautical miles through ice and gales
American sailor Matt Rutherford is attempting to become the first person to circumnavigate the Arctic Ocean solo, covering roughly 10,000 nautical miles through ice floes and fierce gales. He spoke with NPR from aboard his boat during the voyage. The expedition is a bid to set a world first in solo sailing.
