DNA of modern humans carries traces of two unknown extinct ancestors
Researchers developed a new method to detect past interbreeding in human evolution that does not require ancient DNA samples. The technique identified segments of living humans' genomes originating from previously unknown hominins, including one from a lineage dating back 1.8 million years. The finding suggests that the evolutionary history of Homo sapiens was far more complex than previously thought.
