Illegal construction in Poland goes largely unpunished — NIK blames municipalities and inspectors
Poland's Supreme Audit Office (NIK) has blamed municipalities and construction supervision bodies for a growing wave of illegal building across the country. Local government officials argue they have long called for stricter building laws, but have instead received successive rounds of deregulation from central authorities. In practice, those who build illegally on municipal or others' land face little legal consequence.
