Europe's wildfires so intense they generated their own fire-storm clouds

Historic wildfires scorched vast areas of Spain and France, with one Spanish blaze burning an area roughly the size of New York City. A French fire generated a rare pyrocumulonimbus — a towering fire-driven storm cloud. A deadly combination of lush winter growth, extreme heat, drought and strong winds turned the landscape into explosive fuel.
