Denmark extends military service to 11 months and conscripts women for first time

Denmark has launched its first intake of 1,600 young recruits — including women — under a new extended military service programme lasting 11 months, up from the previous four-month basic training. The expansion of conscription reflects Denmark's response to growing security threats in Europe. It is the first time women have been included in Danish mandatory military service.
