Warsaw falls silent at 5 p.m. to mark 81st anniversary of the Uprising
At 5 p.m. on August 1, sirens wailed and church bells rang across Warsaw as residents stopped to honour the participants of the Warsaw Uprising. The Fighting Poland anchor symbol appeared in the sky, and crowds gathered in squares chanting "Honour and glory to the heroes!" The annual tradition marks the outbreak of the uprising on 1 August.
